Self-doubt is something I see in nearly every therapy room. High achievers feel it. Parents feel it. Leaders feel it. It often shows up quietly, sounding like caution or overthinking, but underneath it can carry shame or fear of getting it wrong. The truth is, self-doubt isn’t a character flaw. It’s information.
In a recent piece on Upworthy, I shared:
“Self-doubt, when approached with curiosity instead of criticism, can actually become a powerful tool for growth.”
When we pause and ask what the doubt is trying to protect us from, we often uncover values, standards, or past experiences that deserve compassion rather than judgment. That shift alone can transform doubt from something paralyzing into something purposeful.
Rather than trying to eliminate self-doubt, the work is learning how to relate to it differently. When we respond with awareness and intention, it can guide better decisions, deeper self-trust, and more grounded leadership.
